Koen worked in the medical sector before he started studying gelato making in Bologna, Milano and Perugia. He assisted in Zomers Gelateria in Utrecht (Holland) before he opened his first gelato shop in the heart of Antwerp’s upcoming and artistic neighbourhood Borgerhout, hence the name Borgo Gelato, in 2017.
After three years of gelato madness in this warm and welcoming district in flanders’ largest city, he opened, with his business associate, a second gelateria in the city’s Theater Area. The gelato parlours are well known in the region for creating adventurous and unconventional weekly new flavours. At the start of 2022, they decided to answer to the increasing demand for B2B gelato and gelato at music festivals, so the second shop relocated to a production kitchen outside the city and became the brand Borgo Gelato Happiness. You’ll find them at some of the biggest music festivals around Belgium and Holland in summer.
Koen is also working as Gelato Specialist for VBI, Iceteam1927’s distributor in Belgium.
